This Is Why Your Ductless System Leaks in Cape Coral, FL
Ductless HVAC systems can be a great heating solution, but like any appliance, they’re not immune to the occasional malfunction. Damaged equipment could make your ductless system spring a leak in your Cape Coral, FL home, causing unexpected puddles and stains. Here are a few reasons why your ductless system may be leaking.
Dirty Air Filter
Dust and particles gradually accumulate on your air filter. Without routine cleaning, the air filter clogs, making it hard to pass air through the system. The coils may freeze and then melt again, resulting in water leaks.
Fortunately, you can avoid this issue by cleaning your air filter. In general, try to do so every two weeks.
Damaged Drain Pan
Ductless systems draw moisture from the air that turns into condensation. Drain pans collect condensation, then move the water out of your home through the drain line.
When you have a cracked, rusty or damaged drain pan, it could leak water into your residence. Drain pans older than 10 years are particularly susceptible to issues.
Clogged Drain Line
Similarly, clogged or frozen drain lines keep water from escaping, causing it to back up into your house. Check the line periodically and invest in regular maintenance to prevent biologic buildup.
Refrigerant Leak
Sometimes, the “water” is actually refrigerant, a fluid that transfers energy through your system. You might have a refrigerant leak if you find liquid around the refrigerant lines. Refrigerant exposure can be harmful, so call a professional to repair the leak and replace the refrigerant, as a homeowner won’t have the tools required for this type of repair.
Defrost Setting
If you find water on the outdoor unit, the system might not be leaking at all. Instead, your equipment might have entered defrost mode to melt the ice after a cold snap.
Call Spectrum Air Conditioning and Refrigeration to set up an appointment for ductless AC service. We can also install new ductless systems in your residence.
