4 Symptoms of a Bad Heat Pump Compressor in Bonita Springs, FL
Heat pumps are a popular HVAC option in Bonita Springs, FL due to their excellent year-round energy efficiency. However, as they’re mechanically similar to conventional ACs, they can suffer from the same types of problems. Here are four symptoms that may indicate a failing heat pump compressor.
1. Loss of Heating or Cooling
Your heat pump depends on refrigerant in both its heating and cooling modes. Your heat pump’s compressor manipulates the refrigerant’s pressure and temperature to power the refrigeration cycle. It also circulates the refrigerant through the system.
It naturally follows, then, that any loss of heating or cooling capacity may indicate a failing compressor. So, if your heat pump blows warm air in cooling mode or cool air in heating mode, suspect compressor failure.
2. A Tripping Circuit Breaker
Your heat pump’s compressor is one of its most power-hungry components. So, if the circuit breaker protecting your heat pump keeps tripping, a compressor problem is likely. If you need to reset the breaker more than once, leave it off, and schedule a repair visit immediately.
3. Unusual Vibrations and Noises
Your heat pump’s compressor is inside its outdoor unit. If you start hearing strange noises or notice unusual vibrations from the outdoor equipment, your compressor may be the culprit. If the noise or vibration coincides with the unit’s large fan turning on, it’s especially likely.
4. A Heat Pump That Won’t Turn On
Finally, if your heat pump refuses to turn on, it may have a failing compressor. When the system detects a fault, it cuts power to prevent further damage. If your thermostat and the heat pump’s circuit breaker show no signs of a problem, the compressor may need repair.
